Meraki Games
Meraki Games is a small, Toronto based, international indie game development company.
Who are we? We are gamers, like you. We are creative minds, artists and dreamers. To us a good video game consists of the following: captivating writing, beautiful music, enchanting poetry, compelling graphics and the means to let your mind wander and do things. Without exceptions the entire team knows what it is like to give in to the immersion of the story, spend far too many hours in magnificent worlds, and what it is like when a game steals your heart and carries you away forever. We know what is important and what will make a game memorable; we want to put all of this into Pyrrhic Victory and Exile Saga.
We work hard to create games that we would like to play ourselves, because if we want to play them, we believe that others would too!
Kyle – CEO, Marketing, Writer, Lead Design for Pyrrhic Victory
Eat, sleep, breathe – Great suggestions, although I often forget at least one while delving amongst the infinite possibilities within the realms of programming. When I learned programming many years ago, I knew I would one day merge it with my other great passion; stories. For as long as I can remember, I have delved into the twisted labyrinths of stories – from video game RPGs/adventures to hundreds of pages of novels. Be it reading stories, crafting stories or reciting the hundreds of stories, they have been a huge part of my life. While it is not the first game I’ve built (nor the last), when I was given the opportunity to participate in Exile Saga with others as passionate as himself – it was impossible to refuse.
Mark – Lead Design for Exile Saga
I’m a storyteller. Be it by writing small novels, poems, songs or simply telling a story while sitting around a campfire, storytelling is my thing. I just love it. I’ve studied a wide variety of computer/technical stuff, including programming, website design, art design and game development. Exile Saga is not my first take on creating video games, but it holds a special place in my heart. It’s the first game I’ve gone commercial with.
McKenon – Lead Programming
Designer, Developer, Player. Throughout my life I’ve loved playing games, and in the recent years found a great amount of enjoyment in creating them as well. Regardless of what I am doing regarding games, they have always been my passion. Growing up, this passion continuously evolved from a small hobby into what is now becoming my career, and I couldn’t say I love it any less.
Jenni – Lead Writer
When faced with reality, things can get a bit overwhelming. I’ve always lived in my own world, but writing down what goes on inside my head helps bring fantasy into being. My mom instilled in her daughters the love of literature and writing, so one of my earliest memories is drawing pictures (albeit badly, but hey! I still draw like a 6 year old) to go with my first book. Writing became my first love all those years ago. Pen and paper have always been constant companions, though lately reality has taken over my internal fantasy world. Meraki is my road back and I’m so excited to be a part of it! I first learned about Meraki from my sister, Joni. As I learned more about it, Meraki became a part of my everyday so when I was invited to join the writing team, I jumped at the chance to meet with my first love once more to build a life long relationship.
Rhyss – Junior Writer
Life is hard sometimes and you always have to take the good with the bad when you have the chance. As an inspiring writer since I was twelve I remembered starting writing stupid small stories about jumping around video game worlds and inserting myself into them. Gaming was my passion even at a young age and I’ve always dreamed about working for someone at a games company and when Kyle needed a writer I jumped straight on the job. I wasn’t going to let my dreams slip through my fingers. I’m a complete newbie when it comes to working for a specific project and I have never worked on a game before but I have written before and I am going to use my style of writing to try and improve the story of the game just like Jenni. I’m just honestly glad to even have a chance to do something I’ve dreamed of since I was a child and thank Meraki Games and the whole team for accepting me into the project.
